October Luncheon - Driving the Central Texas Economy: A Small City with a Big Impact

Just north of Austin lies an area that has seen major growth over the past few years. Temple is home to thriving businesses and corporate employers that have been expanding their businesses or opening up shop. The 2011 Milken Institute Best-Performing Cities Index ranks the Temple metro area (Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, MSA) 5th among the 200 largest U.S. metro areas in economic growth and the creation and sustaining of jobs. Examples of this growth include: Scott & White Healthcare with a network of facilities that now includes 12 hospitals (with two additional announced facilities) and 143 clinics at more than 65 clinic locations throughout Central Texas. Temple College, comprised of a main campus with 27 buildings spanning 108 acres, and six off-campus locations: the Taylor Center, Legacy Early College High School, Cameron Education Center, the Texas Bioscience Institute, Temple College Downtown Center, and East Williamson County Higher Education Center.
