Where do you work and what’s your position? Brief Description of company.

I work as a Marketing Manager with K Friese & Associates. K Friese offers civil engineering services to public agency clients with a special emphasis on water/wastewater, transportation, drainage, aviation and water supply projects. Founded in 2003, K Friese is registered as a Woman Owned Business Enterprise (WBE) with the City of Austin and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) with the state of Texas.

Where is your hometown?  Where did you go to school?

I grew up in The Woodlands, Texas and got to Austin just as quickly as I could. I attended Baylor University, where I earned my BBA in Marketing, and then attended The University of Texas at Austin to achieve a Master of Arts in Advertising.

What do you like to do in your free time? Hobbies?

I have too many hobbies and creative outlets for the little time I have. I own a business on the side with my husband offering marketing design, corporate video production, and wedding videography services, and when I’m not doing that, I can be found sewing up a storm or playing baritone saxophone in a band. I’m also in the process of starting another company on Etsy crafting bridal accessories and event décor. I’m a busy girl who thinks hobbies are the spice of life and a source of great inspiration.

  

What prompted you to join SMPS Austin? 

After taking off a year to pursue technology marketing, I’m returning to my profession in the A/E/C space and the industries / community I love. I thoroughly enjoy the networking opportunities and valuable resources available only through SMPS. Being an SMPS member keeps me more in touch with the issues affecting Austin and the opinion leaders affecting change in the city.

Networking. It’s a term that’s been around for decades. For many, networking means wasted time juggling events and collecting stacks of business cards that accumulate in a bag, car, or a drawer. From 3 Ring Circus to Success begins by teaching audience members how to diagram their network and create connections that produce real results. Audience members will learn how to go from networking clown to event ringleader.

Where is your hometown? Where did you go to school?
I grew up all over the country, but I’ve lived in Austin for the past 12 years. I attended Texas Tech University.

What do you like to do in your free time? Hobbies?
I enjoy movies, reading, and hiking in my free time.

November Luncheon - The Austin Medical School: Potential Impacts for New Construction and Existing Facility Renovation Projects

Two important factors to improving our healthcare system lie in the training of new doctors and the facilities needed to support them. The Austin Medical School, when realized, will be a four-year institution with a focus on medical research, which could lead to quicker access to cutting-edge care for all Central Texans. Currently, Austin is the third largest metro area in the U.S. without a four-year medical school. If passed, Proposition 1 would bring us one step closer to making the Austin Medical School a reality.

So, what does this proposal mean for the A/E/C community? What are the potential opportunities for new medical construction and/or facility renovations, and how fast would these projects take to get moving? In addition to voting in the November 6 election, what else can the A/E/C community do to support this important initiative?

The SMPS Austin Chapter is extremely pleased to welcome two key proponents for the Austin Medical School, Senator Kirk Watson and Greg Hartman, to help answer these questions and more on November 5, 2012.

October Luncheon - Driving the Central Texas Economy: A Small City with a Big Impact

Just north of Austin lies an area that has seen major growth over the past few years. Temple is home to thriving businesses and corporate employers that have been expanding their businesses or opening up shop. The 2011 Milken Institute Best-Performing Cities Index ranks the Temple metro area (Killeen-Temple-Fort Hood, MSA) 5th among the 200 largest U.S. metro areas in economic growth and the creation and sustaining of jobs.
